Amuri Hills Forest Partnership

Dear Partner,

Site Visit
On Saturday week, the 10th of March, at Glens of Tekoa I will be available from 9.30am to take partners through their two sites there - GT1 (Radiata) and GT2 (Douglas-fir).
Please register your interest by phone, fax or email as soon as you are able to, and I will give you more detail and directions. You do not need a four-wheel drive but please bring one if you can.
Your trees are 5.5 years old now. Those of you who saw them two or three or more years ago might be surprised by the change and also interested to see the younger Six Hills Forest Partnership's two stands, which we will also visit.
We will leave there at about 1.15pm, and those who wish could come to Leslie Hills for a 2pm start where you can see your large Radiata stand (LH1). We will also be looking at Six Hills and Triple Ridge Forest Partnerships' stands there.

Contributions this year & Budget
This year we will start pruning the Radiata but we do not yet know how much. A consultant is assessing this at the moment and until his advice is received we do not know how much to budget and for when.
We will be in touch again with that information soon.

Stand Growth
Your stands are past the establishment phase now and so over most of the planted area of each stand, the trees are well above competing vegetation and dominating it. Where they are not, they will not make it to become crop trees, or only some will.
As mentioned above we have measured tree size on the three Radiata stands, now into their sixth year. That is to assess when the optimum time to start pruning is, and thereby to maximise the value added by that operation. It was originally scheduled to begin late this year. Assessment will tell us whether to reschedule that earlier or later, or to 'compartmentalise' the stand. That is to divide it into different areas according to growth and form, and treat each separately.

Tax Deduction Certificates & Financial Statements
The partnership's financial year ended 31st December so the financial statements for last year are being prepared and will be audited within the next few weeks. You will receive a copy together with a certificate showing your share of the partnership's tax loss. You will be able to deduct that from your taxable income for the year to 31 March 2001, which will mean less tax to pay or a refund.

Photos & Reports On Line
You can now find us on the web at the address below. Reports (not budgets or accounts etc), and photos, some of which will not have been sent out, will be there too. And of course, there are some details of what we are creating next. That by the way, will be an 85% Douglas-fir scheme called 'Woodstock Downs Forest Investment', based there, on Mt Whitnow, Glens of Tekoa, and Ahuriri (the Radiata).

In due course most of you may want, and be able to get, everything from us by email. Tell us if you do.

Kind regards

Charles Etherington
